WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE CONFERENCE?

There will be six (6) morning conferences, a keynote luncheon and Digital Excellence Recognition Awards presentation, four (4) afternoon roundtable sessions and a networking mixer. The Chicago Digital Access Alliance (CDAA) is a coalition of more than 40 communities, 70 non-profits, 50 churches, 100 small businesses, and 1000 individuals, and it is pointing the way toward a more digitally equitable future.
THREE DIGITAL EXCELLENCE ADVOCATE AWARD WINNERS TO ACCEPT RECOGNITION AT CONFERENCE KEYNOTE DIGITAL EXCELLENCE LUNCHEON
Pioneer CTC Creator Carl Davidson, Julia Stasch, Vice President for Community Development at the MacArthur Foundation, and Illinois State Representative Constance "Connie" Howard will be the Digital Excellence Advocate Award recipients at the Keynote Luncheon of the 1st Chicago Neighborhood Digital Excellence Conference And Technology Fair. The conference will be presented Friday, October 29, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at DePaul University Egan Urban Center, 1 East Jackson Boulevard, Lower Level.
Davidson, through his organizations Chicago Coalition For Information Access, Networking for Democracy and TechTrain, repaired and distributed thousands of used computers and created or assisted in the creation of nearly a hundred community technology centers throughout Chicago. He brought technology repair training to Chicago Public Schools through the Techtrain Initiative and inspired a new generation of socially-conscious techs such as Free Geeks Chicago and the Chicago Technology Cooperative.
Stasch, as Chair of the Mayor's Committee To Eliminate The Digital Divide, architected the collaborative process that brought the community-driven concepts of "digital excellence" and "digital demonstration communities" to the forefront in the ground-breaking study, "The City That Networks: Transforming Community And Society Through Digital Excellence" during the 2007 wi-fi network RFP negotiations. Her seminal speech at the 2007 Community Media Workshop introducing the report remains an inspirational vision for Chicago as a digitally-empowered city.
Howard, as co-chair of the Computer Committee in the Illinois House of Representatives, championed the awarding of millions of dollars through the State of Illinois Eliminate The Digital Divide program to community technology centers and has been a tireless advocate for bringing technology resources to underserved communites.
The Digital Excellence Luncheon is a highlight of the conference, which includes six (6) morning workshops, four (4) afternoon roundtable sessions and a networking mixer in addition to the luncheon.
